Various indices to define and assess obesity. The most
used is the body mass index (BMI) or Quetelet index. Is calculated by dividing
weight in kilos by the square of height in meters. BMI is considered normal
between 20 and 25. 25 to 30 is considered overweight. Obesity threshold is set
at 30, above 35, is considered severe obesity. These definitions are
statistical type and, therefore, are arbitrary and are not always suited to
individual cases.
